Dunkermotoren GmbH was founded in 1950, with headquarters in Bonndorf. It manufactures drive and all-in-one solutions for industrial automation, medical and laboratory technology, door automation, sun protection, motive, and basic automation. The company’s diverse product range includes DC/BLDC/AC motors, planetary/worm gear units, brakes, encoders, linear systems, and system solutions. This portfolio is perfectly complemented by the Italian sister company MAE with its stepper motors and blowers. Since 2021, the automation specialist EGS Automation and the company’s own Industrial Internet of Things brand, nexofox, have strengthened the Dunkermotoren profile.

RESULT IN BRIEF

THE CHALLENGE

In 2019, Dunkermotoren GmbH approached us to desire a modern shop solution. The goal was to integrate it into the existing website and the configurator. Through a direct connection to the company’s ERP system (SAP), product availability, prices, delivery, and payment conditions would be available live in the shop. Integrating fixed interfaces between the configurator and the shop solution with an individual rights and roles concept ultimately provided the basis for complex payment processing for new and existing customers.

THE SOLUTION

Thanks to a holistic digital commerce solution consisting of a web store and integrated 3D configuration, we were able to meet our customer’s requirements together. To improve usability and quality, the first step was to implement a new web-based configuration tool for internal and external use in the D/A/CH region. The end customer himself now has the opportunity to carry out product configurations, call up the most accurate 3D models and dimensional drawings and compare products. Thanks to the integrated filter function, the search for the right product is clearly laid out. Another highlight is the automated calculation and generation of characteristic curves for geared motors. This allows the customer to check whether the product provides the right service before ordering.

In the second step, our team individually developed an e-commerce solution based on the existing configurator at the end of 2020. In addition to standard functionalities such as product selection, shopping cart, display of matching accessories, and check-out, external payment service providers were directly integrated through interface integration. This simplifies the purchase process for the sales department and the end customer, who can pay by PayPal and credit card. In addition, a clear dashboard that can be maintained by the customers themselves, including order history, favorites list, and download area, ensures an improved customer experience.

The new digital commerce solution not only enables Dunkermotoren to take another step towards digital transformation through the holistic digital mapping of internal and external workflows – from configuration and characteristic curve calculation through to ordering. It also represents an additional, innovative sales channel, which promotes extended market access and the expansion of competitive advantages in the industry. At the same time, the automation of the sales process significantly reduces the workload of the responsible departments and diversifies the use of the resources gained.
