Regiolux GmbH is a successful medium-sized family business known for high-quality lighting systems in the field of technical lighting. The company was founded in 1952 in Königsberg, Bavaria, and today employs more than 270 people. With a broad product portfolio and customized project solutions, Regiolux supports partners worldwide in planning and implementing modern lighting concepts.
CLIENT: Regiolux GmbH
INDUSTRY: Technical lighting
PROJECT: Light line configurators for fast and intuitive system configuration
SOLUTIONS: Web-based CPQ solution based on 3PQ® with seamless system integration
TECHNOLOGIES: 3PQ®, ERP Bridge, PIM interface, Keycloak
Regiolux’s existing configurator increasingly failed to meet the requirements of modern CPQ solutions. Limited usability, lack of stability, and restricted scalability meant that the tool was only used to a limited extent in daily operations. At the same time, the technical foundation was insufficient to meaningfully integrate new interfaces—such as connections to the ERP system or external lighting calculation tools.
Why was further development necessary? Planning technical lighting systems is complex and requires precise coordination of various components. Luminaires, accessories, and configuration parameters must fit together perfectly to create a functional system. At the same time, customers expect quick responses—for example, for initial quotations or project calculations. The goal: a modern, scalable configuration tool that reduces this complexity and provides users with a clearly guided, intuitive path to the right lighting solution.
The project resulted in a modern CPQ solution based on 3PQ®, directly integrated into the Regiolux website. Users can quickly configure complete light line systems or individual luminaires, save them in the shopping cart, and submit requests directly. Through integration with SAP S/4HANA, customer-specific prices are displayed and requests can be automatically transmitted.
A key component of the solution is the availability of different entry points for various use cases. Users can either configure a single luminaire via the website’s product catalog or start directly in the light line configurator via a landing page. There, complex light line systems can be assembled step by step. Two modes support different user experience levels: a quick mode with predefined options for fast entry and a pro mode with freely configurable parameters and full system selection. The rule is: only technically feasible configurations can be created.
The guided process leads users step by step through the configuration — from selecting the mounting type and suitable accessories to generating a complete bill of materials. Additionally, individual products such as spare parts or accessories can be added directly to the shopping cart and requested. An export function enables further internal processing of the configured shopping carts.

For product data maintenance, Regiolux relies on direct integration with the existing PIM system from myview. Master data is managed there and transferred to the configurator on a regular basis. The result: a scalable system that can be flexibly expanded and easily integrates new product families.
Before the project started, an initial phase with several workshops was conducted. Requirements from various stakeholders were consolidated, and the future solution was conceptually defined. Additional analysis and expert meetings evaluated technical feasibility and prepared implementation. The outcome of this phase included a UI/UX prototype, a documented requirements concept including interface definitions and MVP scope, as well as a solid effort estimation. This structured preparation helped minimize potential project risks at an early stage.
After a project duration of around one year, the solution was successfully launched and has been continuously expanded ever since. Additional product families are being gradually integrated. Looking ahead, Regiolux plans to add further interfaces to lighting calculation software and wholesale shops. In the future, 3PQ® will also enable collaborative workflows between customers and sales teams. For example, customer requests can be sent directly to sales, further processed or optimized there, and then returned to the customer, allowing them to seamlessly continue the ordering process.
